About Me

My name is Dylann Cohn-Emery and I’m a student at Rowan University, majoring in journalism.  I’m making this blog for my online journalism class, but also because I really love hiking, camping, and the outdoors in general!  It’s about this topic specifically, because I want to learn about the different opportunities for camping and hiking in South Jersey since that’s where I’m living right now.

Starting when I was a baby, I’ve gone with parents to New Hampshire to stay in a campsite, see my grandfather and go on some hiking adventures.  My dad grew up in Concord, NH and has tried to get the hiking and camping experience for me the way he had it when he was my age.

New Hampshire, specifically North Woodstock where Russell Pond Campground is located, is one of my favorite places on Earth.  It holds many of my childhood memories and hopefully many of my future memories.

I went this past summer with my dad and boyfriend, and we decided to try something new.  It was the end of July when we went this year.  This time my dad thought we could try one of the many 4,000-footers recognized in the White Mountains.  So there we stood, at the entrance to Mt. Osceola.  We had a rough idea of what we were getting into, but we told ourselves and each other that we could get it done.  Strain, excessive breaks, complaining, bad knees, bullshitting, and laboured breath would ensue along the way.  In the end, we made it out the other side scraped, dirtied, and full of pride.  Not our most thought-out idea, but definitely a learning experience.
